aswellasamazingperformances.Ithasseveralresidentandtouring
troupesanddrawsheavilyfromthecircustradition.Emphasizingtheuseof
humansasperformers,CirqueduSoleildoesnotmakeuseofanimals.Instead,
itsperformancescombineelementsofstreetperformancesandbusking,circus,
opera,ballet,androckmusic.Actsincludecontortionists,jugglers,feats
ofstrength,clowning,andtrapezeartists.Theircostumesareverycolorful.
Cirqueshowstraditionallydonotusepre-recordedmusic;withsome
exceptionsallmusicisplayedlive,andinmanyperformancesthespoken
partsaredoneinCirquish,animaginarylanguageinventedbythecompany.

Cirqueshowsbeginasacreativeconcept,usuallywithelementsofacentral
storyline,adesignconceptandtheselectionofacomposerforthemusic.
Theseelementsremainrelativelyconstantthroughouttheproductionrunof
agivenshow.

However,theshowsalsoincludeboth"house"and"guest"acts.Houseacts
areperformedbythefull-timecastmembers,somewhommaybeinvolvedin
severalroutines.Notallpreparedroutinesarepresentedinevery
performance.Guestactsrotateinandoutovertherunoftheshow(clowns
aretypicallyguestacts).Asaresult,Cirqueshowscanvarysomewhat
performancetoperformance,andshowstendtoevolveovertime.Cirque
creatorsborrowfromsomeofcircus'searliestforms(forexample,banquine
andteeterboardacts)butalsoregularlyintroducenewapparatus.For
example,Cirqueintroducedtheuseofbungeecordstoaerialactsandcreated
amodifiedtumblingtrampolinecalledaPowerTrack,bothofwhichhavesince
beenadoptedbyothercircuses.

Quidam:anamelesspasser-by,asolitaryfigurelingeringonastreet
corner,apersonrushingpast.Itcouldbeanyone,anybody.Someonecoming,
going,livinginouranonymoussociety.Amemberofthecrowd,oneofthe
silentmajority.Theonewhocriesout,singsanddreamswithinusall.
Thisisthe"quidam"thatCirqueduSoleiliscelebrating.

Ayounggirlfumes;shehasalreadyseeneverythingthereistosee,andher
worldhaslostallmeaning.Herangershattersherlittleworld,andshe
findsherselfintheuniverseofQuidam.Sheisjoinedbyajoyful
companionaswellasanothercharacter,moremysterious,whowillattempt
